This post should have gone up a while ago.. ah well.

Went to see Sound Tribe Sector 9 at Smalls' last week. Fantastic show as always from those guys, first time I've really cut loose dancing since Disco Biscuits at the Tower 12/28. They weren't very inspired, seemed a little tired for some reason. They were playing a lot of single songs when it seemed like they could have really torn the roof off and connected more... It's just that a lot of their songs would start to get really intense and then just end. There were a couple great beats in the first set and an incredible end of the second set that were just this side of mind-blowing.

I've determined that the most wasted natural resource isn't oil or trees, it's girls who dance being with guys who don't. They look enviously over at those who are free to dance, maybe trying to break away now and again, but then the guy wants to be all territorial and if she starts dancing too close to another guy who is dancing, they swoop in all possessivelike.

Also, here's a key piece of information for those who concert at Mr. Smalls: On the left side of the venue, in the wall about three yards in front of the merchandise stand, there is an air conditioning vent that blows down into the crowd. Dancing there is infinitely better than dancing anywhere else, because of this alone. It was a phenomenal discovery, though I didn't check the opposite side for symmetry (I don't like the right side of venues, whether it be theatre, movies, concerts, whatever). However, if you are a stander, please leave this space for those working up a sweat. Thank you for your consideration.

I'm not much of a dancer, but if the music's good it makes me move. People who don't dance at shows aren't really experiencing the show. I mean, isn't that what its all about? Cutting loose and having a good time in front of a bunch of people that you'll never have to see again?

By the way, if you're ever strapped for space in the pit, a bit of hectic dancing can do wonders. People just seem to move away from you.
