Monthly Train of Thought Blogging

I really need to figure out a way to inspire myself to post more often without prodding. This post brought to you by Sober's last 5 MySpace blog posts, all in the last couple weeks.

Speaking of MySpace:
I guess that's as good a place to start as any. I fell into MySpace. It kind of snuck up on me. At first, I just used it to keep in touch with my wonderful Lynn. Few other readers here have met her, and it's to their loss. Coolest girl on the other side of the Schuykill. Then people started finding me. AmeriCorps members, then Sober, then friends from home. Now, I'm getting blog subscription posts all the time. I will, however, say that I still hate the MySpace interface. It's awful. Completely inefficient and unreliable. Wall posts are much easier to use than comments or bulletins. Still, the integrated blogging of MySpace isn't matched on Facebook, simply because of the subscription system used between MySpace members. Not as useful for outside readers. Wanting to keep any readers I've retained (though I haven't seen many comments), I'll stick to Blogger as my medium. For now.

Speaking of Blogger:
I once created a Peyote Alumni forum, though it wasn't used much. I discussed with Brody the idea of setting up a similar forum for the Sabah Alumni. All alumni would be contributors, and the forum develops as it will. Anybody have any thoughts on it? It can be a great way to keep in touch, just to fool around, or update on what's going on in people's lives.

Speaking of Lives:
I've spent the last month working with kids at East End Cooperative Ministries' Summer Day Camp. It's a great job. MWF I teach basketball, and TH I teach ultimate. I don't have an age group of my own, but even better, I get to make up games for the kids to play during their Recreation time. I never discipline kids, just make sure they're having fun. The 7-8 year olds love me, so if you ever wondered if I really did have an 8 year old sense of humor, there's the proof. I've had some incredible interactions with the kids, and I think I've actually managed to reach a few of them, especially the ones we tutor in the mornings. Watching some of them understand fractions for the first time and the look of that understanding and confidence is simply one of the best feelings ever. I also get to go on field trips with the kids. I've been caving and to the Pittsburgh Zoo for the first time! In my off time, I ball with the lunch crew and recreation staff.

Speaking of Balling:
While playing basketball, I sprained my ankle. Badly. First time I've sprained it badly enough for it to swell to the size of a softball. Nasty looking, so I went to the hospital. Not broken, but sprained enough that they gave me some ankle support and Vicodin. Yay Vicodin, boo ankle. Takes me out of Summer Leagues too, which is particularly annoying. I realized that of all the Summer Leagues in which I've played in the regular seasons, I've only played in one finals tournament. Aside from that, it's going to make things more difficult.

Speaking of difficulties:
I've had a lot of trouble finding an apartment. The place I had found and was in contact with chose not to inform me that they don't rent to full time college students. I'm in touch with another place, but they won't know if they'll have a space for me until August 10th. But I'll be leaving Pittsburgh 10 days after that. Dilemma... I guess I could always leave all my stuff in my car and camp until I can find a place, but that kinda sucks, don't it?

I agree with you that Myspace isn't the best place for a blog, but I never intended to have one. I don't feel a need to have a public diary where I whine about my problems. I ended up getting Myspace to check out my brothers band... and when Jessica joined in I actually started using it.

I guess I don't feel like I have enough to say to merrit having a real blog... but perhaps my many posts in very few days shows that's not the case. Perhaps I'll get myself a Blogger blog soon.
